The Samsung CLX-2160 is what Samsung claim to be the world’s smallest colour laser MFP, but is it punching above it weight? In terms of running costs the Samsung clx-2160 toner cartridges are like its form factor, small, and this means that they print less than the normal Samsung toner cartridges but they still maintain a good cost per page of 10p for colour and 2p for black. There are compatible printer cartridges available which cost on average 50% less than the genuine Samsung products and are widely available from number of specialist printer consumable retailers online. Scanning a capabilities of the clx-2160 are slightly basic but that to be expected at this price, it has some useful features like ID copy and one touch copying and the quality is reasonable. The clx-2160 is surprisingly impressive in terms of printing speed of mono documents but is let down by its heavy work of colour printing, black documents can be printed at 16ppm while it can only manage 4ppm with colour documents. With an impressive 2400 x 600 dpi maximum resolution the clx-2160 produces great looking prints that go behind what you would expect from a printer in this price range, both the black and colour documents clear and sharp, the only weakness is the lack of depth in the colour when printing photographs but the printer is not designed for printing photos so this shouldn’t be a problem. The Samsung clx-2160 is as a result a good all-rounder and great represents great value for money printing.
